Motorcycle enthusiasts have gathered for the past four years in collaboration with local dealerships Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale (HDOS) and GO AZ Motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for the kiddos at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. This year marks the 5th Anniversary and the team behind the scenes is excited to share what makes this ride so special to them.

Shelley Martin, Event Manager at HDOS, has been involved with Bob’s Biker Blast for the past four years. She said, “Whether they are on two feet or two wheels, hundreds of riders participate in the ‘I Ride 4 PCH’ kick off ride to Bob’s Biker Blast (BBB)”—named after owner, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Bob Parsons. BBB is an all day celebration of the riding community culminating at the World’s Largest Harley-Davidson dealership with a rock star performance by headliners Montgomery Gentry, Craig Morgan and Kellie Pickler.”

On Saturday, November 5, the self-guided “rev and ride” starts at Phoenix Children’s Hospital where riders will meet with patients, buy exclusive merchandise and snack on lunch provided by Arcadia Tavern, Chipotle and Grimaldi’s. Photos will be taken by TapSnap, who excel in photo entertainment services. PCH riders get a limited edition “mandanna” designed by local artist Jon Arvizu. There will also be an exclusive autograph signing with Bug Hall of Discovery Channel’s hit miniseries “Harley and the Davidsons,” who will make a special appearance at the dealership.

HDOS General Manager Doug Roessing, who is leading a very excited team of employees that are working hard in raising funds and awareness for the kiddos at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, sat down to give us the inside scoop on why you need to get down to the dealership and support the cause.

PCH: How many employees are involved with this event?
DOUG ROESSING: In total, more than 250 employees from across the dealerships and our supporting organizations taking part in this event.

PCH: What makes this year different than previous Bob’s Biker Blasts?
ROESSING: We are changing up the music this year and bringing in three big country acts whereas most years have featured rock artists. Also, we’re kicking off the event early this year with our “Light The Fuse” party on Friday, 11/4, at HDOS.

PCH: What sorts of activities are happening?
ROESSING: We will be lighting the fuse for Bob’s Biker Blast on Friday, 11/4, with a huge party featuring live music from Liver Down the River, a line dancing performance, western-themed carnival games and food and fun for riders & non-riders of all ages. On Saturday, we’ll again have live music at the dealership with Big Swing and the Ballroom Blasters, as well as appearances by the Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders and Bug Hall from the Discovery miniseries “Harley and the Davidsons.” We’ll also have vendors on-site and food and drinks available all day until the track opens at 4 p.m. and the attention shifts to the performances there by Kellie Pickler, Craig Morgan and Montgomery Gentry.

PCH: How does this support Phoenix Children’s Hospital?
ROESSING: All proceeds from Bob’s Biker Blast go to PCH. Last year, including a generous donation from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, the event brought in more than $1 million for Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

PCH: What does Phoenix Children’s Hospital mean to you?
ROESSING: PCH provides a crucial service to the Phoenix area and beyond. Seeing the positive effect first hand impacts everyone on our team. We have a very close relationship with one of the brave little guys from PCH. Brendan celebrated his recent birthday with us at HDOS and is making the most of the gift of life provided him by the hospital and its expert team of doctors and caregivers.

PCH: Tell us about the dealership?
ROESSING: HDOS is the world’s largest Harley-Davidson dealership with destination features like none other, including a state-of-the-art Service Department, Rumble Zone, Arcade and Lounge, Wedding Chapel, Movie Theater, Photo Booth, Refreshment Station and more. We have visitors from all parts of the globe coming in daily to get a taste of the customer experience we provide.

PCH: Where do attendees park?
ROESSING: A limited number of VIP passes are still available with FRONT ROW parking and elevated seating for the event. Additional parking is available at the dealership and surrounding areas. We’ll have attendants on site to direct parking.
