Our kids at Phoenix Children’s Hospital have to deal with problems that would knock most grown-ups off their feet. That’s what makes opportunities to let the kids just enjoy being a kid so special and make us so grateful to Scott and Polly Bindley for making PCH family night at the movies so much fun.

The Bindleys have been long-time supporters of PCH and are always looking for new ways to brighten the lives of our patients and their families.  In addition to being such kind individuals, Scott is a screenwriter with Gulf Stream Pictures, which co-produced the animated 3D hit, “The Nut Job.” So Scott and Polly teamed up with PCH corporate partner, Harkins Theaters, and the film’s distribution company, Open Road Films, to give our kids and their families a night they won’t soon forget.

A PCH patient attending The Nut Job on movie night.“The Nut Job,” released in January, is a 2014 Canadian-South Korean-American 3D computer animated comedy film starring Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Gabriel Iglesias, Liam Neeson and Katherine Heigl. The movie follows the antics of Surly the Squirrel and his rat friend Buddy as they plot an outrageous theft of a nut store and end up having a crazy and hilarious adventure along the way.

113 PCH patients and their families packed Harkins Christown on January 30th to enjoy a showing of “The Nut Job.” The families were treated to Snak Paks by Harkins Theaters and Open Road Films gave out t-shirts and movie posters from the film.

The Bindleys had one more trick up their sleeves. The star of the film, Surly the Squirrel, was on-hand to meet the kids. Polly took pictures of the kids and their families with that nut-loving trickster; the kids will get copies of the pictures to remember the evening. Their families and everyone at the theater that night will get to take home the memories of the beautiful smiles on the faces of our PCH kids.

We’d like to thank Scott and Polly Bindley, along with all the wonderful supporters of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, for the kind and generous donations of your time, talents and treasures. We’re just “nuts” about all of you!
