Downright Beautiful

Nothing more sweet than seeing the look of your child’s smiling face as they strut across the runway. Over 200 family members and close friends got to see just that this past Sunday, March 20, at the Warehouse 215 @ Bentley Projects. On a sunny afternoon, over 21 models from the Pediatric Down Syndrome Clinic at Phoenix Children’s Hospital participated in the 3rd Annual Downright Beautiful Fashion Show, presented by Hastings & Hastings. Each model was dressed in the latest styles from Kohl’s, which generously donated all of the clothing for our sweet models to parade in. Prior to the show each model was glammed up by a Rolf’s Hair Salon stylist. While models prepared backstage, guests of the program enjoyed participating in the online silent auction, sipping on mimosas and posing in front of the step & repeat. Kevin Ray from Pure Energy Sports hosted the show and described the fun styles worn by each enthusiastic model. Prior to the runway portion of the show, guests were honored to hear from Jamie Brewer, the first female model with Down syndrome to walk New York Fashion Week. Jamie is currently an actress on the hit FX television show, American Horror Story. She expressed her heartfelt thanks to be a part of such a wonderful event that impacts so many lives and serves a great cause.

During the program, Julia Banahan, a devout volunteer at the Down Syndrome clinic, was presented with the Service Award after telling her own personal experience of having Down syndrome. She continues to achieve her goals by volunteering at the clinic every week, while going to school and maintaining a job.

Models were escorted down the runway by current Miss Arizona title holders, and by Mike Leach (pictured below), a great supporter of Phoenix Children’s Hospital who recently retired from the Arizona Cardinals after 16 seasons in the NFL.

Downright Beautiful

The program closed with the Downright Remarkable Award, which co-chairs Laura Chapnek and Diane Hastings presented to Lynda Christel. Lynda was one of the pioneers who helped establish the Down Syndrome Clinic at Phoenix Children’s Hospital three years ago.

The Downright Beautiful Fashion Show, presented by Hastings & Hastings, was a day filled with love, pride and enthusiasm in support of a downright good cause. The event grossed over $37,000 this year, and the funds raised will benefit the Pediatric Down Syndrome Clinic at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. We are sincerely thankful for our committee for putting on another spectacular event!

This event would not have been possible without our generous sponsors: Hastings & Hastings, Every Kid’s Dentist & Orthodontist/Pacific Dental, Ensemble Real Estate Solutions, Mass Mutual, Hanger Clinic, Larry John Wright Inc., Kohl’s, Rolf’s and Uhaul! Thank you for your support to empowering our models to shine on the runway!
