With the help from our incredible partners at KTAR News (92.3FM), Arizona Sports (98.7 FM), who set aside regular News and Sports programming for two days, the 16th Annual Give-A-Thon for Phoenix Children’s Hospital presented by Your Valley Hyundai Dealers raised a record setting $1,578,349.

For 19 hours the phones rang off the hook; people made donations in honor of their healthy kids, others because their children owed their lives to a children’s hospital, some who were compelled by the soft voice of a child who had just shared their story on-air and hundreds who were fueled by the thought of putting a smile on a child’s face and a teddy in their arms.

We saw 1,324 Champions of Hope; individuals who pledged to donate $20 per month or a gift of $240 or more. While this alone is humbling, over 700 of these incredible people chose to donate their incentive back to the hospital or to a family currently admitted at Phoenix Children’s. People weren’t motivated to give because they would get something in return; they gave because they wanted to help.

We had heard from so many of our corporate partners who wanted to be involved with this years’ event that we had a feeling it would be one for the books. But we had no idea just how special it would be. Back in 2010, the first time we raised $1 million with our friends at KTAR, it happened within the last 30 minutes of the event. Each year since then, it has been pretty much the same story with hospital staff, volunteers and the team at KTAR crossing our fingers and holding our breath in hopes to recreate that milestone. This year, things were different; we felt that excitement much earlier and when we hit $1 million by 3:00pm, with four hours to go, we knew we had to go for it; we would shoot for the stars and beat 2015’s $1.4 million. Never did we think we would raise over $1.5 million and become the largest Radiothon program in the country. It

The funds raised at Give-a-Thon benefit the Hospital’s Hope Fund, which helps us fund research, new clinical programs and technology. It also helps us recruit world renowned physicians, fund child and family friendly services and ensure that each and every child who needs care in our community receives it. For that we thank you. We thank each of you who called in or stopped by to make a donation, we thank the kids who brought us their piggy banks, the families who courageously let us into their lives and shared their stories, the volunteers who stepped in when we needed them and to our tremendous corporate partners who raised record amounts for our kids.
