A big thank you to all of dog lovers who made the 2017 Dine With Your Dog: Brunch Edition a successful and sold-out event! Over 300 dog lovers and 225 companions came together for the 10th Annual Dine With Your Dog celebration to support Animal Assisted Therapy at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. It was a decade ago that a special group of volunteers started Dine With Your Dog in the backyard of one of PCH’s own doctors.

This year the canine-friendly affair raised $75,000! The funds will help us continue to provide world-class health care, hope and healing to our wonderful patients and their families.

The event, benefiting PetSmart Charities Paw Can Heal Animal Assisted Therapy at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, was entertaining for everyone. Guests enjoyed live music by Steele Sound Arizona from the lawn at Marshall’s Outpost Pavilion, where they received their keepsake, framed photograph from their photo-op on the green carpet. As the silent auction took place, guests enjoyed mimosas and cocktails from Tito’s. Bids were placed on beauty packages, weekend getaways, and special spoil-your-pup baskets.

Our “Good Morning: Sniff & Greet!” was followed by a delicious brunch (special thanks to Green Bone Bakery!) and an adorable program emceed by Dee Garcia, host of The Hot 97.5 Morning Show, and Barney Bidwill, Canine Pet Therapy volunteer at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Guests “Raised their Treats” for a 10 years toast supporting Pet Therapy at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Co-hosts Barney and Dee shared a bit about Pet Therapy at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Pet Therapy Teams help patients by offering a “paws” in anxiety and stress for kids and families, as well as assist in easing some of the pain they feel for a temporary time. A healing paw can support patients in reaching their treatment goals that range from eating, socializing, taking medication or waiting for a procedure. Those wagging tails bring a lot of smiles to kids who are in need of fun, playtime and comfort.

One of those kids, Emma, along with her parents, Jacque & Devon, joined the event this year to tell their story in person. They spent the night hanging out with co-emcee and pal, Barney.

A special thanks goes out to Wendy Rabin for her second year chairing Dine with Your Dog, and for being an instrumental supporter of Dine With Your Dog since the beginning.

In addition, a special thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, PetSmart Charities, who has done so much for this program and continues to ensure that it’s available to the patients at Phoenix Children’s.

PetSmart and the Arizona Diamondbacks were “Best in Show” sponsors, and they have supported Phoenix Children’s Hospital in various ways for many years. Also, thank you to Alta Vista Veterinary Hospital, who has partnered with Dine With Your Dog since the beginning of this very special event.

We would like to thank our Kennel Club, Friend of Fido, Top Dog, and in-kind sponsors. Without you, we could not make this event happen or have such wonderful treats to take home! Thanks also to U-Haul, who so graciously transported all of our wonderful goodies!

Lastly, a thank you to all who came and supported the program, made donations, and participated in the silent auction. The Animal Assisted Therapy Program is funded entirely through philanthropy, which is why your support is so important and greatly appreciated. Phoenix Children’s Hospital truly could not provide this service without supporters like you.

We hope you had as much fun as we did. We wish you all come back next year for the 11th Annual Dine With Your Dog! For more photos and fun, please visit our FaceBook Page and photo album!
