An alluring nautical-theme décor, a graceful display of pieces and an exquisite menu transformed Scottsdale Hangar One into Cape Cod for the 24th Annual Beach Ball. This year’s theme, “Escape To The Cape,” carried nearly 900 guests to the beaches of Cape Cod joining event chairs, Susan Menchaca and Cristina St.Clair to raise more than $1.1 million dollars for the Department of Surgery at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Inspired by the maritime theme, guests arrived to a white plank boardwalk and were greeted with a classic Cape Cod cocktail. As guests took their seats in the hangar, they were welcomed with seaside cuisine on an elegant navy and white display. The event commenced with Bob Meyer, CEO of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, welcoming all to the 2017 Beach Ball.

Jon Hulburd, a Phoenix Children’s Board Member, took the time to commemorate his late father-in-law, Dr. Tim Louis. During dinner, guests had the opportunity to meet Carter, a PCH patient who during his infancy underwent a life-changing surgery at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Carter is now a healthy and cheerful toddler. After the live auction, the party then continued in the Red Room, where guests were welcomed to the Discount Tire After Party.

A special thank you to some of our sponsors: Berkshire Hathaway Energy, Bank of Arizona, University of Phoenix, Chapman BMW on Camelback, APS, Maker’s Mark, Republic Services, and Discount Tire for their generous support.

The proceeds from Beach Ball 2017 will benefit the Hospital’s Department of Surgery. Surgeons perform more than 20,000 operations annually at Phoenix Children’s, but the program will need to double in the next five years to provide care for all the children and teens needing care. Funds raised will help the program continue to recruit the very best surgeons and build additional operating room space to meet growing demand.
