Freelance Opportunity: Web Development and Support Specialist

We are seeking qualified candidates for a Web Development and Support Specialist freelance opportunity. This role will be responsible for implementing and maintaining dynamic, search-optimized, interactive, and user-friendly websites for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable working across multiple teams to lead web development projects and maintenance requests from start to finish. The ideal professional fit is collaborative, proactive, analytical, a strategic thinker, and effective influencer. You’ll need exceptional verbal and written communications, plus an ability to develop data-driven recommendations. Exceptional project management skills are critical for success in this role, and experience with Blackbaud’s Luminate Online system is preferred. Responsibilities

  • Optimize and maintain our branded websites in support of marketing and promotional plans
  • Maintain and update website content leveraging Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tactics to drive reach
  • Manage maintenance and technical support in a timely manner; monitor site performance, troubleshoot and correct technical issues, make additions or modifications to the websites, and work with agency and internal teams to resolve issues as they arise
  • Identify opportunities usability improvements; plan and execute site revisions
  • Perform site functionality and usability testing in various web browsers and operating systems; identify and resolve broken links, assist in testing new and evolved site functionality before launch
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build, maintain, and optimize user-friendly web pages in WordPress.
  • Maintain expertise in industry best practices in web design, user experience, information architecture, accessibility, A/B testing, and search engine optimization
  • Continually grow familiarity with new and developing digital platforms, tactics and strategies
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Foundation’s digital presence
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate requests from internal customers
  • Communicate the status of projects to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Ensure copy and graphics follow the Foundation’s style guidelines
  • Collect, organize, edit and manage assets related to ongoing content updates
  • Communicate and understand technical requirements, identify potential risks and prioritize workload
  • Perform analysis and generate actionable reports when requested to support business decision-making processes and improve customer experience
  • Have a pulse on new technology trends in an effort to constantly improve the site
  • Build and update landing pages for fundraising campaigns, events and other business priorities
  • Implement SEO best practices including content structure, tags and communicate with the Digital team when major updates are made to help increase online presence of website

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of previous web development experience
  • Experience maintaining and editing WordPress-based websites
  • Working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and related tactics
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics and website reporting
  • Experience with HTML/CSS with core technical skills to support responsive/mobile first websites.
  • Contemporary knowledge of emerging web-based and digital technologies with demonstrable application experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a strong command of best-practice web content standards, with SEO research and implementation skills
  • Strong CMS skills, and demonstrated experience managing content on large, complex websites
  • A strong understanding of user-centered design and navigation principles
  • Ability to operate effectively and collaboratively on a cross-functional team
  • The creativity and ingenuity needed to create content solutions that balance user needs with business/legal requirements
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Understanding of QA testing, responsive design and browser compatibility testing
