Cobblestone is a locally owned business with a conscience. For the last two years, the company has helped their employees and customers raise funds for Phoenix Children’s Hospital during September’s Step Up. Stop Cancer. campaign to raise $1 million during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Each year the campaign that marshals the power of Phoenix’ generous community spirit to support the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Phoenix Children’s. The Hospital is fast becoming a global destination for innovative pediatric care. Each year, 370 new patients face a newly diagnosed cancer with the help of expert care teams. After accidents, cancer is the leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14. But with help from a generous community and companies like Cobblestone, progress is within reach.
For Cobblestone the effort combines a passion for serving the local community and also, adding another sense of purpose to their employee’s work. So each September, cashiers at Cobblestone invite customers to donate $1, $3, $5 or $10 at the point of sale. When they give, they also receive a campaign bracelet, a free car wash and more, depending on the amount.
For the company, giving back satisfies a genuine interest in and passion for helping children and families cope and heal. Cobblestone’s marketing director says, “We don’t do this for the attention it might bring us; we do it to show our employees and our customers that we truly care about the community we serve.”
She goes on to say though that to help their store managers connect to the mission, the company arranged for them to visit the Hospital to learn about Phoenix Children’s philosophy of family-centered care.
“Our managers said they were so glad they went and thought it was impactful in growing their passion for supporting the Hospital.” In turn the managers shared their experiences with the company’s employees to help foster a sense of investment into the campaign.
“Supporting Phoenix Children’s helps foster a positive culture in the workplace, and our employees can take pride in giving back. We know they can choose to work other places, and this helps them to see that what they’re doing has even a larger purpose.”
