Cheston’s long and complex medical journey began with his first visit to Phoenix Children’s when he was 3 months old. At 18 months old, he was diagnosed with autism. Various other diagnoses followed over the years, including epilepsy and an anxiety disorder.
Thanks to the care he’s received at Phoenix Children’s, Cheston has made great strides. His care team has helped him learn to manage his anxiety, and he feels more comfortable during his visits to the hospital. Now 13, he is a Phoenix Children's Patient Ambassador. He tells other kids, “Don't be afraid of the hospital. Even if it is hard, you can always do it. Believe in yourself.”
As the need for pediatric behavioral health care continues to grow, Phoenix Children's is taking bold steps to ensure that kids like Cheston get the support they need to thrive. With the support of generous donors, Phoenix Children's is innovating solutions that will strengthen the system of care and fill critical gaps.
