A Heartfelt Thanks for Championing Hope

KTAR News and Arizona Sports 15th annual Give-A-Thon week has come to an end, but the positive impact it has had on Phoenix Children's will endure. Presented by Valley Hyundai Dealers and AK-Chin Indian Community, this year’s event was a heartwarming testament to the power of compassion.

From August 14-18, we heard inspiring stories of resilience, hope and healing and were reminded once again that our community's generosity knows no bounds. With your support, and that of our amazing sponsors, we raised $2.15m!

Our presenting sponsors—Valley Hyundai Dealers and Ak-Chin Indian Community—deserve our gratitude, as do our many partners who stood with us during this special week and matched donations. The support of our business community over the past four decades has made it possible to save countless lives.

To everyone who became a Champion of Hope during Give-A-Thon with a monthly gift of $20 or a one-time gift of $240, we also extend our sincerest gratitude. Your kindness has left a lasting imprint and will continue to be a symbol of hope for all the children and families we serve.

However, it's not just about financial gifts. It's about the smiles, the laughter and the pure joy that spread across the faces of our resilient patients as they received their cuddly teddy bears. From our heart to yours, thank you for making a difference. Thank you for championing hope.

Give-A-Thon Champions of Hope

Bringing Healing Comfort to Kids

Beary Special Deliveries Bring Smiles

During Give-A-Thon week, Phoenix Children’s supporters have a special opportunity to lift the spirits of the kids in our care. During the KTAR News and Arizona Sports Give-A-Thon, presented by Valley Hyundai Dealers and AK-Chin Indian Community, a patient will receive a teddy bear every time someone becomes a Champion of Hope by making a monthly gift of at least $20 or a one-time gift of at least $240.

Many patients have already received bears because new Champions of Hope are stepping up before Give-A-Thon week even begins. The first round of bears has been delivered to the kids by KTAR News and Arizona Sports personalities. Watch our video to see the joy these special deliveries bring, and be sure to tune in to Give-A-Thon August 14-18 to hear inspiring stories of hope and healing from our patients and their families.

Meet Our 2023 Patients

Thank you again for tuning into KTAR News and Arizona Sports during Give-A-Thon week and championing hope for patients like Christian, Ellie, Luca, Madison, Oliver and families like Leighton’s.

Christian

Since being severely injured in a dirt bike accident last fall, 14-year-old Christian has endured multiple brain surgeries, facial reconstruction and a bout with bacterial meningitis. During Give-A-Thon, you will hear more about Christian’s journey to recovery.

Ellie sits at her kitchen table after her family sang the "Happy Birthday" song to her. Her cake is in front of her.
Ellie

Ellie is a budding fashionista, an aspiring equestrian, an avid dancer and gymnast. She also has a rare metabolic disorder called PKU, which severely limits what she can eat—but it hasn’t stopped her from seeing the beauty in all things. Tune in during Give-A-Thon week to hear her story.

Luca

Phoenix Children's has been a huge part of Luca's life since birth. Born prematurely at 29 weeks and weighing only 2 pounds, Luca has had a tough medical journey with chronic lung disease, heart issues and GERD. Learn more about Luca and the milestones he's achieved during Give-A-Thon!

Madison

Madison is only 11 years old, but living with several complex medical conditions has given her a unique outlook on overcoming adversity. She's a girl who's learned at a young age that acceptance leads to perseverance. Tune in and hear more!

Oliver

Oliver is a courageous 12-year-old who struggles with mental health challenges. He and his family have opened up about his mental health challenges in the hopes of reaching others who may be struggling. Hear more about how Phoenix Children's has helped provide Oliver and his family with invaluable resources.

Leighton

In November 2021, Leighton passed away at the age of 9 from germ cell cancer. She loved baseball and hockey, and is survived by her parents, Jeremy and Carly, and her three siblings, LeAnne, Larson and Locke. Hear Leighton's story during Give-A-Thon, and help us honor her and her family.

Give-A-Thon Sponsors

KTAR News 92.3 FM and Arizona Sports 98.7 FM listeners, online users and sponsors play a vital role in Give-A-Thon's success. Last year’s event had a record number of partners who joined forces with the stations to raise much-needed funds for Phoenix Children’s. Sponsors held cause-related marketing campaigns leading up to the event and brought checks to Give-A-Thon to donate live on air. Our fundraising goal for 2023 is $2 million, and last year we exceeded that goal with the help of our partners.

We ask you to consider partnering with KTAR News 92.3 FM, Arizona Sports 98.7 FM and Phoenix Children’s for this special media event. Not only will you offer much-needed support to patient families, but your company and employees will have the satisfaction of taking part in this fun and rewarding event that changes kids' lives.

Thank You for Becoming a Champion of Hope

Give-A-Thon week 2023 may be over, but you can still make a difference in the lives of sick and injured kids facing their toughest battles.
